Do you wear eyeglasses or contacts fulltime to correct problems with your vision? Are you looking for a more permanent solution to enjoying optimal sight? Consider the benefits of LASIK surgery. These FAQs from Alpine Vision, serving Colorado Springs, Falcon and Windsor, CO, explain more about this procedure.
What is LASIK surgery?
LASIK surgery is a procedure that reshapes the cornea of your eye to correct vision problems with nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It offers an alternative to wearing eyeglasses or contacts to improve your sight.
Can anyone benefit from LASIK surgery?
Not everyone is a good candidate for this procedure. After performing a comprehensive eye exam to check your eye health and visual acuity, our optometrist can determine if LASIK is a good option for you.
Generally, LASIK candidates must be 18 years or older, have good eye health and good overall health, and have a stable eye prescription for at least a year. If you’re pregnant or nursing, we recommend waiting to have this procedure as your vision may fluctuate during this time period.
Will LASIK give me 20/20 vision?
LASIK surgery can greatly improve your vision, but eye surgeons cannot guarantee an outcome of 20/20 vision. Most patients, however, are able to enjoy good vision without resorting to glasses or contacts to improve their sight.
Is LASIK safe?
Advancements in the area of LASIK surgery have made this an effective, safe procedure for improving your vision with low risk of complications. Working with an experienced eye surgeon will improve your chances of having a successful surgery.
Is LASIK painful?
No. Your eye surgeon will put anesthetic drops into your eyes before the procedure to protect you from pain. You may also be given a sedative to relax, if needed. For greater convenience, you can have both eyes treated at the same time. After surgery, you’ll be given eye drops to alleviate any irritation you may feel and to help your eyes heal.
How soon can I return to work after surgery?
Most people feel comfortable resuming a normal schedule the day after surgery. Many people experience improved vision within a day or two after the procedure, with improvements continuing over the next few months. Certain activities may be restricted until you fully heal. Our optometrist offers post-op care for LASIK procedures, so you can consult with us for post-op, follow-up visits.
